We did it! After a week full of hard labor, sweat and perseverance we have completely moved out of 1630 Woolsey St. #B. Emily and I each had our last days of work last week and continued over the weekend to deconstruct our lives. Our garage sale on Sunday was not very productive. It rained pretty much all day and all in all I think we sold about 5 books, a stool and some dumbbells that felt heavier than when I got them a year ago. Luckily we had the good company of our friends Kevin and Andrea, by two o'clock we had packed all our junk back inside and we were on our way to lunch. In the end it turns out that Craigslist is a much better way to get rid of stuff. In the next couple of days we set up many meetings with strangers to trade us small amounts of cash and beer for stuff we didn't want or need anymore.
We rented a storage space in a semi-sketchy part of Oakland and rolled countless loads of stuff through the rat-maze catacombs of the dark basement to our storage unit. Again, without Andrea's help and the use of her dad's Suburban we would have been much worse off but with them both we were able to empty our house with only the usual pain you would expect of that task. By Thursday night we were cleaning together in silence, hoping to get out of the place by 10:30, then 11:00 and ultimately 11:30. Friday morning we took a final load to storage and locked the door for what we hope to be at least 7 months.
After the final storage run we packed up the Suburban and set out for Tahoe. The dense snow on the pass was actually a bit of a welcome break from the torrential downpours up until that point. We're now at the cabin with a fire going and chemicals in the hot tub. We've got most of the big stuff behind us and it feels good. Sorry if we have been short of communication but we're ready now to enjoy our family and friends' company and to get warmed up to the idea of watching the rest of this adventure unfold.
